# How to Set Up a Blog for Your Volusion Store

When the words "traffic" and "work" are used in the same sentence, its usually not a good thing. But in the context of promoting your online business, the more traffic the better!

If you want to link to your blog from your storefront or to your storefront from your blog, there are a few simple steps to follow. Once you've configured the settings outlined below, you'll be able to cross-promote your brand through a number of channels including your storefront, blog, and social media accounts.

**Note**

If you haven't already, you'll need to create a blog on a third-party site before you can link it to your domain and your store. There are a number of popular blogging tools available online including WordPress, Blogger, and many others. There's even a plugin available from WordPress to integrate your blog with your Volusion store.

**Directing blog.myvolusionstore.com to Your Store's URL**

You'll probably want your blog's URL to appear to be a subdomain of your store's URL. For example, blog.myvolusionstore.com looks more professional than, say, myvolusionstore.blogspot.com.

Note that this feature is for Volusion stores that don't already operate on a subdomain. If your Volusion store is on a subdomain (for example, store.myvolusionstore.com), you will need to create a CNAME record to point at your blog from the main domain's host.

**For Blogger and Blogspot Blogs**

Sign in to your Blogger or Blogspot dashboard. Note that there are currently two versions of the dashboard.

**OLD DASHBOARD**

1. Click **Settings**.
2. Click **Publishing**.
3. Click **Custom Domain**.
4. Click **Switch to Advanced Settings**.
5. Enter the URL you want to use for your blog (for example, blog.myvolusionstore.com) in the **Your Domain** field and complete the **Word Verification** field.
6. Click **Save Settings**.

Now proceed to the Volusion settings section below.

**UPDATED DASHBOARD**

1. Click the **Options** menu and select **Settings**.
2. Beneath the **Publishing** section, click **Add a Custom Domain**.
3. Click on the **Switch to advanced settings** link.
4. Enter the URL you want to use for your blog (for example blog.myvolusionstore.com) in the **Advanced Settings** field and click **Save**.

Now head on down to the Volusion settings section below.

**VOLUSION SETTINGS**

Note that you must add two different CNAME records to your DNS records in order to point blog.myvolusionstore.com at your store.

1. Log in to [my.volusion.com](https://my.volusion.com).
2. Click **Manage DNS**.
3. In the **Choose a Domain** menu, be sure the hosting plan you want to edit is selected.
4. Below your current DNS records, click **Add New Record**.
5. In the first blank, type "subdomain.domain.com." (such as "blog.volusion.com." -- and don't forget the trailing period character!).
6. In the **Record Type** menu, select **CNAME**.
7. Enter "ghs.google.com." into the following field.
8. Click **Save**.
9. Click **Add New Record** again.
10. In the first field, enter the subdomain address you've been provided, followed by a trailing period character (for example, "D4MNWOVVXE.yourdomain.com.").
11. In the **Record Type** menu, select **CNAME**.
12. Enter the blog record value you've been provided, followed by "dv.googlehosted.com." (for example, "gv- IOIFMDS4JLEGAK6N3NS6YFQ7LO43ROHUNIWA.dv.googlehosted.com.").
13. Click **Save**.

Blog.myvolusionstore.com should begin to redirect to your blog within 2-4 hours (often sooner), but it can occasionally take up to 24 hours to resolve.

 For WordPress Blogs

1. Log in to [my.volusion.com](https://my.volusion.com).
2. Click **Manage DNS**.
3. In the **Choose a Domain** menu, be sure the hosting plan you want to edit is selected.
4. Below your current DNS records, click **Add New Record**.
5. In the first field, type "subdomain.domain.com." (such as "blog.volusion.com." -- and don't forget the trailing period character!).
6. In the **Record Type** menu, select **CNAME**.
7. In the next field, enter your WordPress blog name followed by a period character. For example, if your blog is called user123.wordpress.com, you would enter "user123.wordpress.com." here.
8. Click **Save**.
9. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard and go to **Store** \> **Domains**.
10. Enter the URL you want your blog to have in the **Add a Domain** field and click **Add Domain to Blog**. For example, blog.myvolusionstore.com".
11. If everything is configured correctly, you will be prompted to pay for the upgrade and complete the mapping process.

 Marketing blog.myvolusionstore.com via Social Media

Once you have created your blog's CNAME record and it has been propagated, it becomes easier to market it on social media sites. The simplified URL eliminates the name of the blog provider, and creates a cleaner, more professional-looking URL.

Linking to Your Blog From Your Volusion Storefront

You can create a link in your footer or in a category/product description that links to your blog by using the following format of HTML code for linking:``

```
```

If you are pasting this code into your header or footer in your **template\_xx.html** file, you should be familiar with custom coding and HTML. It is not recommended that you use this method to offer a link to your blog if you do not feel comfortable or familiar with custom coding. Even if you are familiar with custom coding, you should [archive your theme](https://help.volusion.com/s/howtoarchiveyourcurrenttheme?hsLang=en-us) before adding in code to your **template\_xx.html**.

You can also paste a link to your third-party blog in the **Alternate URL** field of a new category. Simply name the category "Our Blog", and find the **Alternate URL** field at **Advanced Settings** \> **Misc** section of the category.
