This article covers additional adjustments to the SEO tab after you've completed your initial configuration in the Settings app. It helps you improve your store's general organic search engine ranking.

Homepage SEO

The values in this section help your homepage perform better in search engines.

The Homepage title tag appears on visitors' browser tabs and displays as the website title in organic search engine listings. You can follow the format of the default text in the field, or create your own format.

The Homepage meta description helps search engines understand the page content better and displays as the website description in search engine listings.

The Google result preview shows you how your page will display in Google's organic listings based on how you fill in the other two values. It updates in real time as you edit them.

Note that values don't finalize until you press Save.

Verification Tags

Some popular websites require you to install a verification tag before they'll index your site properly. We provide fields for Google, Bing, and Pinterest. Enter your tag in the appropriate field(s) and save. Do not include prefatory text, such as "google-site-verification=". Simply enter the code itself as demonstrated in the example text.

If you're verifying through Google specifically, make sure to use the HTML tag verification method described in Google's how-to guide.

Sitemap.xml

Submitting your store's sitemap to a service like Google Search Console can help optimize search performance. If you ever need to download your store's sitemap, you can do so here. Simply press Download Sitemap.xml. Hidden products and categories aren't included.

We automatically update your sitemap file once every 24 hours, as well as after all store updates that change your sitemap. If you'd like to refresh your sitemap before its regularly-scheduled update, you can manually force a refresh by pressing Refresh Sitemap.xml.
