The SEO section is where you will customize Search Engine Optimization values (also known as metadata) for your products and categories. Every product and category page in your VOLT store will have an SEO section.

Getting Started

To get started, from your store's Dashboard, click the Products icon in the Left Nav Menu.

On the Product List, locate a product for which you'd like to add SEO information and click that product's SKU.

You can now scroll down to the Description and SEO sections of this product.

Description Field and SEO

Products and Categories both feature a Description Field. Type your information in the Description field in plain text or HTML input. Text can be linked within the section and you can also add images or video. When you've finished making changes to your category description, click Save.

The first time you fill in a category or product's description, it will also be saved as the Meta Description in the SEO section. The Category/Product Description and Meta Description can be edited independently once both fields are filled in.

SEO Section

The SEO section is automatically included on all of your product and category pages. To customize your metadata on a page, navigate to Products or Categories on the left-hand navigation menu, then click the page you wish to edit. Scroll down to find the SEO section.

To customize any of your SEO fields, edit the text you see in the Page URL text, Title Tag, and Meta Description fields.

Metadata Fields

Page URL text

This field is populated from the Product or Category's name, and will appear in your URL:

Volusion generates SEO Friendly URLs for you by default, but we also give you the ability to customize your URLs.

Title Tag

This field is populated from the Product or Category's name and will appear in the title bar of any web browser window visiting your page:

The Title Tag also appears on the Search Engine Results Page and is considered one of the most important indicators for search engines to know what your site is about.

Note - the Title Tag is case sensitive, but the Page URL text is not.

Meta Description

This field should give a brief description of the page. Our system automatically populates this from your Description field, and allows you to customize the text with up to 160 characters. Your Meta Descriptions will not display on your storefront, but they will appear on the Search Engine Results Page below the Title Tag.

Google Result Preview

This feature shows you exactly what your store’s Google search results will look like, based off what you entered in the metadata fields:

Once you’ve ensured that your SEO values are set, be sure to click Save.
